What Causes Pounding Heart At Night?

Yes - I typed in my symptoms. I m allergic to dust and take Claritin D 12 hour tabs (1 per day). I very often feel like my heart is pounding. Average pulse 72 and blood pressure 135/85. I use dip (nicotine) every day. At night when going to bed, often feel heart pounding, and it usually takes me a while to fall asleep. Have my own business. We are VERY busy - stressful. 6 3 200#

Cardiologist 's  Response
Hello,

I passed carefully through your question and would explain that your symptoms could be related to anxiety.

Anyway, I would recommend consulting with your attending physician for a physical exam and performing an ambulatory 24/48 hours ECG monitoring in order to investigate for any possible cardiac arrhythmia.

It is also necessary for performing some blood lab tests (complete blood count for anemia, blood electrolytes for any possible imbalances, thyroid hormone levels for thyroid gland dysfunction).

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Ilir Sharka,
Cardiologist
