What Causes Pounding Sensation In The Head Upon Coughing?

the crown of my head feels like it explodes inside when I sneeze or cough. Then is pounds constantly for about an hour afterwards. I feels kind of like a brain freeze x10. This began after I had the flu in January but it is happening more frequently now.

Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

By your history and description, possibility of frontal sinusitis is more likely. Viral upper respiratory tract infection (URTI - flu) can cause sinusitis. And this causes headache (pounding) while coughing. So better to consult ENT doctor and get done x ray of frontal Sinus. You will need antibiotic, painkiller and anti inflammatory drugs. Drink plenty of fluids orally and keep yourself hydrated. Avoid cold water, cold drinks and ice cream. Do warm water gargles and steam inhalation 4-5 times a day. Don't worry, you will be alright with all these.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
