What Causes Pressure Behind The Eye While Coughing?

Hey, at the moment i don’t know what to do, I had the flu last week and still have a cough. Now everytime I cough I feel heaps of pressure behind my left eye and it’s kind of like a massive head ache but as soon as I stop coughing it goes away and also when I bend over the same thing happens. It kind of feels like my heads going to explode. Should I be worried?

Hello,

Because of chronic cough it imparts straining pressure on fundus because of this there is increased IOP (Intraocular pressure), CSF (Cerebrospinal fluid) pressure might be increasing. IOP may be measured and CSF pressure measured.

MRI brain may be taken and consult neurosurgeon for analysis of MRI examination and diagnosis.

Refraction can be done and if error detected then it should be corrected due to straining there is some obstruction on CSF flow on bending or stooping it increases CSF pressure requires to be examined by neurosurgeon for examination analysis of MRI report for examination and diagnosis.

Give treatment to control cough like give cough sedative and avoid stopping. You can take Hifenac-P tablets if pain increases.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
