What Causes Pressure In The Abdomen And Constipation While Having IBS?
Hi, I am a 21 years old woman. 3 years ago I have been diagnosed with IBS constipation. However, no medicine works for this constant abdominal pressure. I had a colonoscopy last week because my symptoms got worst but it was normal. However, when I did the bowel preparation, I noticed that I still had this abdominal pressure and fullness sensation even though my stomach was completely empty. I always had stress problems that modified my body (weight gain, hair loss, cellulite) and therefore I was wondering if my symptoms cannot be related to an anxiety disorder or other problems like that.
IBS is generally a condition that is not related to problems localized in the bowel. It is thought to be related to anxiety so it is true that anxiety might be an aggravating factor for your symptoms.
You will need to see your doctor to evaluate your for anxiety, he can give you questionnaires to evaluate the grade of anxiety and if you need specific treatment for it.
On the other hand, healthy lifestyle is found to help with anxiety and IBS: regular exercise, regular walks in nature, avoiding alcohol, smoking and coffee, eating fruit and vegetable, taking fiber supplements, etc.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Antoneta Zotaj,
