What Causes Productive Cough On Lowering Prednisone Dosage?
Hi, there is no specific diagnosis of my lungs, but when my doctor told me to taper down my prednisone from 4mg to 3mg, my cough increased to a couple of times a day. Also, my cough is productive. What could be the problem? Also, what would be the recommended dose of prednisone? Thank you.
Thanks for asking at Healthcare Magic. I read your question and I understand your concern. Productive cough is common in chronic and acute bronchitis, asthma, bronchiectasis, upper respiratory tract infection, pneumonia, GERD. There is no such respiratory disease with productive cough in which long term steriods like prednisolone are needed. Only intersistial lung disease, Caplan syndrome needs long term steriods. Your doctor may have prescribed you it for three to four weeks and now he will tappering it. I would like to advise you to have Chest Xray followed by CT chest if chest Xray was abnormal. pulmonary function tests and Xray Paranasal sinuses. Hope it helps best. Take your best care.
