What Causes Productive Cough While On Benicar?

I have taken Benicar for 12 years with no side effects. It controlled my HBP well until the last 2 years when amolpidine was added. Over the last year I have developed a usually dry/sometimes productive cough which is getting worse. It is now constant and VERY annoying. Is it likely that this cough is related to the Benicar? Is there something else I should ask my doctor to check?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

A cough is a known side effect of Benicar.

I recommend you to use a mucolytic to relieve a cough.

I also recommend drinking a lot of liquids.

If the symptoms continue I recommend consulting your doctor about an alternative medication to control the blood pressure.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi,
