What Causes Profuse Rhinorrhea And Sneezing After Endoscopy?

The supplemental oxygen given to me via right nasal canal during my endoscopy has resulted in profuse rhinorrhea and sneezing after the procedure. Any advice on what I can do to mitigate this? I have read that it can last many days. I tried allergy medicine, but it did not help.

Hi,

Usually all that is needed is an antihistamine and a nasal decongestant. I used to give Levocetirizine once daily and Xylometazoline nasal drops 2-3 times a day for 5 days. In case it persists beyond 5 days, the discharge becomes purulent / foul smelling, or fever develops, we may need an antibiotic cover too. Your doctor will guide in this. Meanwhile avoid exposure to cold/dust/smoke.

Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
