What Causes Profuse Sweating In The Hands And Feet?
My daughters hands and feet sweat alot and have since she was really young. when she puts her hands feet inwater they become extremely shrivaled and her skins starts peeling, really within 5 minutes of being in the water. I can t seem to find anything about this online, canyou help?
What you are suffering from is most probably hyperhidrosis and to be the more specific palmo-plantar type of hyperhidrosis.
The cause of hyperhidrosis can be divided into primary and secondary.
Primary hyperhidrosis is caused by genetic inheritance. It becomes evident during adolescence and is triggered by hot climates, spicy food, and anxiety.
Treatment of hyperhidrosis is using antiperspirants like aluminum chloride at higher concentrations. Axillary hyperhidrosis is tackled by using botulinum toxin (Botox) and surgical removal of sweat glands.
In your particular case, endoscopic thoracic sympathectomy can be done to relieve palmar sweating. Here the nerve supply to the sweat glands is ablated so that the sweat glands don’t function.
Please discuss this with your doctor after ruling out secondary causes of hyperhidrosis.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Take care
Regards,
Dr Ivan R. Rommstein, General Surgeon
