Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Progressive Multiple Sclerosis And Heart Palpitations?
I have advanced secondary progressive multiple sclerosis( about six years now) and have experienced some irregularity of heartbeats(palpitations, skipping one to four beats when ms attacks). Now my recent EKG shows sinus bradycardia with non-specific T wave abnormality. I know that many ms patients die of ultimate heart attack. Will the damaged and diminished electroconductivity of my brain worsen my heart? How much sooner will this happen, than in a normal 68 year old female without ms?
Possibility of cardiac involvement through multiple sclerosis requires a detailed evaluation of valvular function, vegetations, reflux issues and other functional parameters against normal woman of 68 without multiple sclerosis. Provided rhythm and rate control of heart is achieved, that does not pause an immediate or near future threat to life expectancy. Discuss the scope of monoclonal antibodies therapy to keep the multiple sclerosis in remission phase with your immunologist.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
