What Causes Prolonged And Light Vaginal Bleeding?

hi... my last period began 18 february and ive been bleeding ever since. 3 days of normal bleeding but now each day, nothing then light pink disharge then a light bright red bleed. i have pelvic pain, back pain, i urinate frequently whether a little or normal. there is blood in my urine. my bleeding does have an unpleasant odor to it. i am fatigued, i am also anorexic. have been for 24 years but have managed a steady weight in past year. have lost almost 1.5kilos in a matter of 10 days. was 35.7 now 34.2kilos. i do feel nauseated and i seem to bloat at the tiniest thing i eat which is very frustrating. i am emotional and tired all the time. my last intimate experience was 23rd january.. im worried about cancer actually as it runs in the family..or maybe its an STD??? i dont know what to think.. but these are my symptoms and thankyou for listening.

OBGYN 's  Response
Hello,

I have gone through your query and would like to offer some suggestions. From your symptoms, it is most likely that you are experiencing an urinary tract infection and I would suggest further evaluation.

Infections cause hormone disturbance and can lead to abnormal menstrual pattern. Added to this, your recent sudden loss in weight can accentuate the hormone imbalance. Though you have had the anorexia problem for years, it is proper to get a thorough evaluation in view of your family history. You will also need counselling to overcome your moods. Tiredness can be due to the malnutrition and also the infection.

Once the situation is clarified, further management can be planned. Urinalysis, blood counts, sonogram of the abdomen and pelvis are the needed investigations. Please see a specialist for further management.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Shanti Vennam,
OBGYN
