Hi, i have given birth to a baby on 31st of Jan 2012. on 27th april 2012 i took a depo provera injection . after that on 16th may i had bleeding for about 10 days. now this month there is spoting and cramping. is this normal. i m a working women so its problemetic for me to handle my baby work with this problem
I completely understand your query and this is a very common issue. It is also one of the main reasons women discontinue depo shots.
The depo shots have progesterone so they do not allow your normal menstrual hormones to act. They act on the uterine lining making it unfavorable for pregnancy. However this leads to spotting or prolonged bleeding in many women. In most cases it gets corrected by itself in 3 months, however it may continue in some women.
So try to discuss with your doctor about a short course of drugs like tranexamic acid to control bleeding. If these do not work or cannot be prescribed then you may need to switch to oral contraceptive pills or condoms if possible.
