What Causes Prolonged Bleeding During The Menstrual Cycle?

My periods start on the 5th every month and lasts about 5 days. On 5/27/16 i got a cortisone shot in my neck to relieve pain from a car accident. June 5th I did not get my period. After a week of not getting my period I started seasonique to avoid getting my period on a trip I am going to August 11-15 because I wasnt sure when my period was going to come. June 22nd my period starting and hasnt stopped. Its been on for 17 days, werent as heavy as my regular periods. I finished my one month 3 days ago and havent started the 2nd month. What is this prolonged bleeding from? The hormones of the ocp or my period changes from the shot and can it be stopped?

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

You are having irregular bleeding and I believe you should do a total gynecological check-up doing a pap smear, colposcopy, and ultrasound. I think you should better try to use combined contraception pills in order to make the period much regular.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Olgeta Xhufka, General & Family Physician
