What Causes Prolonged Brown Bleeding During Periods?

Hi I am trying to find some answers asap I was suppose to start on the 12 of December and never did then on the 24 I started spotting dark brown and now the last few days I have light bleeding with the same dark brown blood so all in all I have been bleeding for ten days now I took a pregnancy test and was negative on the 20 should I be alarmed does anyone know what could be wrong

Though periods most commonly last 7 days or less, it can last longer in some women occasionally.

If it is a persistent recurrence ( if your periods continue to last for long period of time), then you may need assessment such as examination and ultrasound. Blood tests to check the function of the ovaries may also be needed as well.

The brown blood is usually old blood and may mean that it will soon stop. There is medication that your doctor can prescribe for you to help it to stop sooner so you also have this option.
