What Causes Prolonged Diarrhea?

Hi, My wife has been experiencing diarrhea for two weeks plus, coming and going from day to day. She s not sick, or has eaten anything different in her diet. We are now concerned it might be something else. What do you think it could possibly be? Thanks-JD

Hello,

Chronic diarrhea may occur due to:
1. Food allergy
2. Irritable bowel syndrome
3. Inflammatory bowel disease
4. Malabsorption syndromes
5. Gluten/Lactose Intolerance
6. Whipple's disease et cetera

Avoid food that causing diarrhea, get stool examined for ova and cysts. Use probiotics twice a day for five days.

If symptoms not improved, please consult your physician, he/she will examine and treat you accordingly.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Penchila Prasad Kandikattu
