What Causes Prolonged Fatigue And Lack Of Concentration?

I am a 36 year old male and I always seem to be tired. I can't seem to focus at work. I am a recovering alcoholic and used to think that my drinking had damaged my brain. I have been sober for 6 years now and haven't smoked for 3 years. I exercise regularly and take vitamins, but I just can't seem to get to the point where I feel healthy again.

Hello thanks for asking from HCM for your health related queries

I can understand your concern. You are a healthy male, exercising daily, taking regular doses of vitamins and have symptoms like chronic fatigue, lack of concentration and have thinkings that alcohol has damaged your brain. You left alcohol about 6 years back and this has nothing to do with your symptoms. Alcohol withdrawal in mild form may persist for months but you quitted 6 years back and this has no effects on your present clinical situation.

The chronic fatigue, lack of concentration etc symptoms can occur due to some mood disorder especially mild to moderate depression. Some times in mild depression chronic fatigue like symptoms are seen. Even individuals remain normal in terms of mood but still they might have mild depression. As your symptoms are chronic so I'd advise you to consult a psychiatrist for help. Medicines like SSRIs as Sertraline, Fluoxetine, Paroxetine etc can be used. These medicines will help in mild depressive symptoms and you will feel better. You are already taking regular doses of vitamins and this will supplement the actions of the drugs. Please visit a psychiatrist for prescription of these medicines.

Thanks, Hope this helps you. Take care
