What Causes Prolonged Loss Of Consciousness In A Drug Addict?
hi my name is Kristen my friend last night went home he currently is a addict of cocaine and he was drinking last night at 3 am in the morning I guess he went into a coma.? this morning he was rushed to the hospital from what I hear right now he has a tube in his throat and is still not awake right now it is 5:03pm is he ok will he wake up? what are the doctors doing? help I need answers please
We cannot say in your particular case. There can be fatal brain damage and people never wake up from it.
In theory, it can be just sleepiness from the alcohol but this is unlikely because that wears off and almost never takes a full day for the person to wake up and generally doesn't need life support like the tube. I have had one patient each in this context.
The alcohol patient didn't have serious problems and was barely admitted before being ok. The cocaine patient had multiple strokes and died.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Matt Wachsman
