Hello.
Thank you for your query. I understand your concerns.
Menstrual irregularities are common in the extremes of reproductive age, i. e when young girl sees her period initially and when a women would stop seeing her period ultimately. You are in the peri-menopausal age. Your ovaries are slowly starting to produce less hormones, this causes cycles where the egg is not released. Such anovulatory cycles have prolonged bleeding.
Another reason for prolonged could be uterine fibroids.
Hypothyroidism can also cause menstrual irregularities.
I would advise you to get your
HAemoglobin checked to rule out
anemia from the excess blood loss. Anemia leads to
tiredness.
Further get your
thyroid function tests done.
To stop the bleeding you could take
Norethisterone 5 mg 3 times a day for 7-10 days. It will arrest the bleed. Once you stop the tablets, you will get a withdrawal bleed in 4-5 days which should be lighter than your current period.
This could just be a single episode and the next few periods may be spaced out and scanty and ultimately you may stop seeing your periods altogether. If this sort of a period recurs again, I would advise you to see your doctor.
I hope this answer has been helpful to you.
Thank you
