What Causes Prolonged Menstrual Bleeding While Having An Implanon Insert?

Hello Ive been on the implanon rod for 2 years and it expires in December. I never had problems with my period during on it, it was regular until now. I was on my period Aug 20 and last about a week which it has never lasted that long.. Then a week later I get it again and Im still on it. Everytime it seems like is going to stop I get fresh blood all over again and i get period like cramps. What can be causing this? Can it be the implanon?

Hello,

Usually, Implanon will cause no menstrual bleeding, only a light spotting between periods.

As you are having fresh blood all over again, then, should consult with your gynecologist. I think implanon should get removed. In fact, on in 10 women, would experience the same bleeding as you, which is an indication to get the implanon removed.

Discuss this further with your caring doctor.

Hope this helps.
