Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
Good day I am 28 yrs of age and I am a type 1 diabetic for 11years now, I gave birth to my second child 3yrs ago, after breastfeeding I started using triphasil, but being very emotional and depressing my menstrual cycle will start and last for 17 or more days non stop. I started with the Petogen 150mg injection on the 21st of April this year and my cycle started now the 6th of May and I am still bleeding heavily, I am very confused and need some advice urgently?
Petogen 150 mg injection contains medroxyprogesterone, a natural female hormone, progesterone that is used in the prevention of unwanted pregnancies from unprotected sexual intercourses. It works by preventing development and releasing of egg from the ovaries. Petogen's effects persist for about 12 weeks. It may cause prolonged and heavier menstrual periods than normal. It may cause lighter short periods. It may also cause breakthrough bleeding or spotting between periods.
This side effects may be noticed especially at the first stage of treatment, after start taking Petogen injection. These side effects are mild as well as self limiting and will usually go away over time as your body adjusts to this medication. But, if these side effects persist for long or bother you, then you should inform your doctor first for medical attention and further evaluation.
Take care. Hope I have answered your question. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Zubayer Alam, General And Family Physician
