What Causes Prolonged Numbness And Tingling In Tongue Post Anesthesia Shot?
I went to the dentist yesterday to get some cavity work done they told me I needed to have a crown they gave me two shots of anesthesia in the lower right part of my jaw were the tooth needed the work done. my face was numb my tongue was numb for 24 hours I woke up the next morning my tongue was still numb its going on the 3rd day now and the left side of my tongue is still numb amd tingley I was just wondering if it will ever cure why and what caused this isn't something to be worried about?
I have gone through your query and can understand your concern...
As per your complain it seems that while anaesthesia shot the nerve is injured by the pricking needle leading to persistent numbness as in normal conditions the numbness subside in 1 to 2 hours maximum..
You need not to worry as these kind of needle prick injury to the nerve mostly resolves completely but the time taken for resolution is almost unpredictable and can take from weeks to months to resolve.. Do warm compresses on the affected side of face as well as tongue. Be careful while eating as numb tongue can get bitten accidentally due to lack of sensation..
Hope this information helps..
Thanks and regards.. Dr.Honey Nandwani Arora.
