What Causes Prolonged Post Anesthetic Delirium?

my nan has recently had back surgery, and obviously gone under anesthesia for it. She has had these operations a few times before and had delirium afterwards for a short time. However, this time she has had it for over a week and there appears to be no improvement. Is this a result of low potassium or could it possibly be a permanent result?
