What Causes Prolonged Vaginal Bleeding In A Woman With PCOS?

I'm 26, 6ft and 10.5 stone, i have recently been diagnosed with pcos after coming off the pill 18months ago and having sporadic / unpredictable periods. I dont exhibit typical signs of pcos though as i'm not hairy or overweight. It has recently been suggested that i go on Ortho Evra because in the past i have tried several combined oral contraceptives but most result in continuous breakthrough bleeding of brown blood and the Dr said maybe it has something to do with how my body absorbs the hormones.
I have used Evra now for 3 months and i have bled brown blood contuously for the last 2 cycles. I'm wondering if there is a contraception which is best suited to me and my pcos so i dont 'bleed'. Maybe a contraceptive with higher dose of oestrogen or lower dose?

Hello
As you mentioned that you are having sporadic / unpredictable period .
You are having pcos ( Poly Cystic Ovarian Syndrome ) but according to you , you are not having obesity or excessive hairs growth .
It is not necessary that all patients have hairs growth or obesity .
Dysfunctional uterine bleeding /irregular bleeding / scanty /amenorreha , ultrasound findings shows atretric follicles with increased ovarian stroma .
Androgen excess also present.
I mentioned all these symptoms , so that you can understand that ,it is not necessary that all symptoms or signs present in all patients with pcos.
Cysts are often caused by hormonal imbalance .
Using BIRTH CONTROL PILLS and metformin can sometimes help regulate hormone levels so that cysts can be taken care of.
This is not necessary that all the time gynae use low or high dose of estrogen but a balanced dose is important.
So your gynae will decide low or high dose .
The irregular bleeding with brown discharge may be due to hormonal imbalance .
So consult your gynae and get his opinion about evra ( 2nd opinion).
In my opinion take complete treatment for pcos and you will get complete relief.
Good luck.
