What Causes Prolonged Vaginal Bleeding?

I had sex for the first time three weeks ago as of this upcoming Thursday. I am currently on birth control and have been the last two months. I have been bleeding ever since the day I lost my virginity however, and this week is supposed to be my period week according to my pills. I know it is not healthy for me to have been bleeding for almost three weeks straight so far. The blood has not been in large amounts, it has been bright red but also light brown at some points. It has been enough for me to need to wear a pad or a tampon to keep from bleeding through clothing, but it is not as much blood as when I have a period. Please help me, and thank you.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

I think you should consider visiting a gynecologist because we can't say anything without seeing it. Maybe you need a colposcopy and an ultrasound done. Also, trauma may be a cause.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Olgeta Xhufka
