General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hi,
Thanks for posting in HCM.
Levonorgestrel is used by women to prevent pregnancy after birth control failure (such as a broken condom) or unprotected sex.
It is an emergency contraceptive pill and should not be used as a regular form of birth control.
It is a progestin hormone that works mainly by preventing the release of an egg (ovulation) during your menstrual cycle.
The dosage and timing of what you have taken is proper. Also, you have got withdrawal bleeding at the right time.
Commonly encountered side effects include: Nausea, vomiting, abdominal pain, tiredness, dizziness, changes in vaginal bleeding, breast tenderness, diarrhea and headache.
Since you are having prolonged vaginal bleeding, it needs to be attended by evaluation by Gynecologist, which you have to approach.
Hope the information provided would be useful.
All the best.
