What Causes Puffy Eyelids?

I have noticed that above my eyelid, like across the bone has developed some puffiness. It has been this way for several months now. It does not hurt, but when I am tired, that eyelid tends to close on it s own and I don t even notice. Then when I do, I open it and then it does it again. It reminds me of a lazy eye, but the puffiness has got me.. Thank you

Dear
Thanks for contacting with your health concern and regarding puffiness of eyelid following should be the approach:

1. Periorbital puffiness could be due to not getting enough sleep or when one is unusually tired/fatigue but one shoul also keep in mind that kidney problem (nephrotic syndrome) starts with periorbital edema thus ask for detailed urine (proteinuria) and renal (B. Urea & S. Creatinine) investigation.

2. Check with blood report for anemia hypoproteinemia and hypercholesteremia.

3. One should confirm that the patient is not on steroids (patients of asthma/eczema)

4. Check with your health care provider to exclude other causes like: myxoedema (thyroid level), cushing syndrome, angioneurotic edema, any heart pathology
