What Causes Pulsating Feeling On Lower Abdomen During Pregnancy?
I am 29 weeks pregnant and have been getting this pulsating feeling in the lower area of my belly. Sometimes in the middle or can be on the right side. It doesn t feel like hiccups because it s faster. What can this be? It lasts a little while too.
When you are pregnant, your blood volume increases by over 50 percent to help store up extra blood to prepare for childbirth. Because of this, the large blood vessels in your abdomen, especially your aorta (which is the big tube that pumps blood to your abdomen from you heart) get larger and you can feel your own pulse especially when you lie on your back. Some thin women can sometimes see their belly "beat" with their heartbeat. If you put your finger on your neck when you notice the pulsing, see if it follows your heart rhythm. If they coincide, that confirms the diagnosis.
This is actually a common feeling pregnant women describe in the early third trimester when your blood volume expands the most. It is nothing to worry about.
I hope I was able to answer your question today and that this information was reassuring.
Best wishes for the rest of your pregnancy, Dr. Brown
