General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

If the blood pressure was 145/80, I should tell you that systole 145 is more but the diastole 80 is normal. The condition is called as Isolated Systolic Hypertension. The uncomfortable feeling on the side of neck is due to distended veins due to hypertension. I would like you to start some treatments as soon as possible. Before you do so, there is also need to do some tests.

1. Blood Tests including Fasting Blood Glucose
2. Thyroid Function Test (T3, T4, TSH)
3. Hemoglobin % and Ferritin

I also want you to start this medications:
1. Enalapril
2. Metoprolol
3. Simvastatin for future cardiovascular risk reduction

Also, if you drink alcohol, you must try to stop drinking. Feed on healthy diet, fish oil, etc. Keep a check on BP regularly. Take Morning BP which is the best. Have light to moderate activities or exercises. The follow up treatment is very important in this case.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Dipan Samanta, General & Family Physician
