What Causes Purple And Red Gums Post Surgery?

just noticed that the bottom half of my bottom gums are purple/red. No pain, no tenderness. The gums around of teeth pink, not swollen. Am I lacking in something. Just had small surgery couple weeks ago could it be after effect of anethesia or antibotic or my menopausal hormonal changes?

Hi..
Can understand your concern..

As per your complain the red/purple appearance of the gums can be due to the after effect of surgery caused by inflammation which is commonly seen after any surgical procedure and can be there for some weeks after surgery and can slowly get resolved..

If you do not have any other symptoms like pain, bleeding ,swelling etc.. you need not to worry as it will be nothing serious..

But in case there is some problem associated or you have deposits on teeth there can be infection of gums causing GINGIVITIS leading to reddish purple appearance of gums..

In case of hormonal changes the discolouration of gums will be associated with other symptoms like swelling, itching or bleeding from gums.

In case you have any other problem along with the discolouration you can consult your dentist and get evaluated..

If not you can wait and watch and if it is due to inflammation caused by surgery it will be resolved by itself..

Hope your query is solved..
