What Causes Purple Colored Bruise After An Injury?

I fell down the stairs on Friday. I have a very big bruise which is a deep purple apart from the centre which is a funny cream colour. It's numb and if I lean on it, it burns and stings. Is it something I should get checked for? Or just wait for it to heal?

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

As per your query a large purple bruise after an injury or falling down is due to rupture of small blood vessels secondary to injury and spillage of blood into the soft tissues leading to formation of hematoma and bruising..
A cream colour in the centre can be an area filled with pus that can occur secondary to infection at the site of injury..
Pain, burning and stinging is due to inflammation..
You can take a course of antibiotics like Ciprofloxacin for one week.
Take anti-inflammatory painkiller like Ibuprofen.
Apply a heparin containing ointment like Thrombophob for faster disintegration of blood and fading of bruise..
Also apply a antibiotic ointment..
Do alternate warm [not hot] and cool compresses..
Elevate the leg while lying down..

If it still does not resolve in 8 to ten days consult a physician and get evaluated..

Hope this information helps..

Thanks and regards..
