What Causes Purple Discoloration And Pain In The Testicles Without An Injury?

I noticed this AM that my testis were a dark purple/black color on the underside. Slight soreness at that time. 12 hours later my testis are both very painful and totally purple/black. What could be the problem. I abstain from sex and masterbation. No injuries. I was diagnosed with bilateral inguinal hernias last week. Left hernia painful at times. Left testicle more painful than the right. Any ideas?

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello and Welcome to ‘Ask A Doctor’ service. I have reviewed your query and here is my advice.

As per my surgical experience, the purple discoloration with pain in the testicles indicate underlying vascular compromise in terms of torsion testis or else.

I would recommend to visit an ER unit and get emergency Doppler ultrasound done for final confirmation of the diagnosis and further definite steps to cure and save your testicles.

Wish you fine recovery and health.

Regards.
