Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Purple Discoloration On A Bruised Area?
I recently scraped my shin. About 5 days later I had a doctors appointment and they scrubbed and gave me antibiotics. That night I got massive bruising on the back of my calf and on both sides of my foot. It has been about. 3 days now and the bruises changed from blue to purple. Is this reaction normal.
If you got a trauma in the area, as you explained, then it is normal to have bleeding and the blood in the tissues can change color with time and can go from dark brown to red color at start to bluish and then later can be purple in the first days and fade with time and turn yellow in 7-10 days till it completely goes away.
The time a bruise takes to do these color changes and it totally goes away depends on the the amount of the trauma and the bleeding in the area, so in some cases can take a bit longer.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards, Dr. Antoneta Zotaj General & Family Physician
