Hi I'm a 30 year old male. I have a big lump on the back of my left ear. The skin is purple and it feels like a water balloon and is very sore to touch. It has been there for over 2 weeks and no pus "head" has appeared. Is it just a boil or could it be something else? Thanks
Understanding your concern. As per your query you have symptoms of lump behind ear which are pointing towards a condition known as cyst or a sebaceous cysts. Sometimes it could be due to infection and swelling of lymph nodes. I would suggest you to avoid touching or pricking area with any sharp object. Maintain complete hygiene. For now give warm compresses to affected area. Consult ENT specialist for proper diagnosis. Doctor may order certain tests like audiometry , tympanometry and do physical examination to rule out condition like lymphadenopathy . If a cyst becomes painful, it may be infected. Treatment may include antibiotics or removal of the cyst.
