What Causes Purplish Skin In Thigh Region Post A Injury?

I hit myself really bad on the side of my thigh and it was a little swollen for 2 days, its been a week already and I don't have any pain at all and I can walk perfectly fine but the skin is reddish and like purple and black. Why does the skin look like that?
