Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Pus Discharge From Small Puncture Wound Post Cat Bite?
My cat attacked my leg and I have a small puncture wound from where he teeth sunk into my leg. I cleaned it right away with soap and water and then put Neosporin on it. But it is swollen around the wound and hard. I accidentally opened it while shaving my legs and little bit of pus came out along with a little bit of blood. Does the pus mean it s infected?

General & Family Physician, Dr. Ina Zaimi's Response
Hello,
Welcome to Health Care Magic. I read your query and I understand your concern.
As you mentioned, the presence of the pus in a would means that there is an infection ongoing. Cuts or lacerations have a higher risk of infection. Puncture wounds, especially those caused by a cat, are considered to have the highest risk of infection. Even though you cleaned the cat bite right away, and put Neosporin on it, the wound might have got infected because cat teeth can cause deep puncture wounds that are hard to clean thoroughly. With such a presentation on my clinic, I would evaluate the possibility to start an antibiotic, because of the risk of that may develop if left untreated, it may spread and cause serious medical problems.
Hope I answered to your question. Feel free to ask again.
