What Causes Puss Filled Lump Below The Navel?

My son who is 20 has developed a large bump inside of his belly button and he is now having pus & blood type fluid coming out from the area. Is this a Hernia or a abscess inside the belly button itself? He is at work and just sent me a picture of what it looks like. Thank you.

I really appreciate your concern, this could be due abscess formation and not the hernia if this is abscess formation then it need to be drained and antibiotic may needed, hope this information helps, take care and have a nice day.
