What Causes Radiating Pain From Knee To My Foot?

Hi I woke up in pain in my left knee last night that soon speed all over my left leg the pain sent me hot and gave me the runs and sickness this lasted for about an hour before the pain started to go away but I went ice cold. I could still move my leg and walk on it. I took some pain killers which seemed to work.
