What Causes Radiating Pain From The Chest To The Back?

I m having midsternal chest pain that radiates to my back, right side of my neck and ear. Thinking it s GERD I ve taken 150mg of ranitidine. The last week I ve had hives and had my lips swell out of no where. I also took 25mg of diphenhydramine because I also had hives with the chest pain symptoms.

Hello,

Welcome to Healthcare Magic.

I have read your question fully and understand your concerns.

Chest pain radiating to back, to one or both sides of neck/jaws or to one or both arms is likely to be angina. Do you have any other symptoms like sweating, nausea, palpitations, faintness when you get the chest pain? Angina is a condition where the muscles of your heart are not receiving enough blood supply/oxygen due to blockage or spasm of the blood vessels of the heart. If the blockage is severe it can lead to heart attack.

I would advise you to see your doctor as soon as possible. He would do a complete evaluation and also run some tests on you like ECG, Treadmill test, ECHO of the heart etc.

I do not think there is any association of hives with chest pain. If it has occurred only once it could very possibly be a coincidence.

I wish you a speedy recovery.

I hope this answer has helped you.

Thank you
Regards
