What Causes Radiating Pain In The Wrist And Fingers In A Diabetic Patient?

My husband hands are swollen from about 2 inches above his watch all the way to the tips of his fingers. They are very painful, no gripping strength. It hurts to hold much more than a coffee cup. He s a banker and does a lot of typing. He is diabetic. He is 52 years old. His mother had an extremely bad case of rheumatoid arthritis.

General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello,

The symptoms seem to be related to rheumatoid arthritis. I suggest using anti-inflammatory medication such as Acetominophen to relieve the inflammation.

I also suggest using cold compresses for local applications. If the symptoms continue, you should see a rheumatologist for further evaluation.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr. Dorina Gurabardhi, General & Family Physician
