What Causes Random Mood Swings And Excessive Anger?

I been having frequent thoughts of assaulting someone. Random mood swings from anger to happy. I haven t felt any depression but I have felt sad about someone then a few minutes later forget about it and not care. I want to randomly hit someone in easily angered but not enough to go through with it. Any suggestions?

Hello,

As asked by you, mood swings can be due to multiple reasons. It would have been of great help if you could have mentioned your age and sex to reach to a diagnosis.

But in the absence of this information, I may give you an overview of its possible causes and methods to manage it. Firstly, It could be just part of your personality.

Since each human possess different personality trait, hence it can be quite common for them to react differently in different situations. If this is the case with you also, and if you are willing to improve this, you must try non-pharmaceutical methods like meditation and Yoga.

Secondly, if this is not normal you, then you might be suffering from depression, be it situational or persistent.

For its treatment, although antidepressants can be a valuable tool, but they aren't a quick fix. They work by restoring the balance of naturally occurring, mood-regulating substances in the brain called neurotransmitters.

But these changes take time to occur. You won't notice an improvement in symptoms soon after you swallow the pill, like you might when you take a painkiller.

So, I must suggest that before going for any pharmacological treatment, do try the below:

•     Get sufficient sleep. A good night’s sleep can improve your mood to a great extent.
•     Try to create a routine for yourself, especially when it comes to eating and sleeping.
•     Exercising regularly has a lot of benefits for nearly all aspects of your health, including mood. Exercise secretes hormones called endorphins that help cheer you up.
•     Healthy and balanced diet can improve your mood and keep you healthy.

Do include lots of fruits and fibre-rich products to keep up the good balance.

If the above doesn’t work, then you can go for antidepressants like Duloxetine, venlafaxine, Amitriptyline, Imipramine etc with a physician’s prescription but I would suggest you practice the non-pharmacological methods first.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
