What Causes Rapid Pulse After Hard Work?

I was working hard outside on a very hot day and was sweating profusely. I became shakey with a rapid pulse. I went inside and cooled off and rested. After about 40 minutes, I was feeling better, but still felt shakey. Was this heat related illness or something else?

Hi,
Welcome to healthcare magic.

I have read the query and the rapid pulse you are feeling is due to the strenuous you are doing outside. For doing such work muscles of body require more blood supply which is provided by increase in frequency of contraction of heart than normal to provide the excessive need, and the pulse rate coincides with heart rate so you feel rapid pulse when you work hard.

The shaky feeling you are having is due to the dehydration caused due to the water loss in form of sweating and evaporation because of working hard in the hot climate.

I suggest you to drink plenty of water balanced with electrolytes regularly while working in hot conditions to replenish the water loss to increase the capacity to work and avoid feeling shaky. For that you can mix a sachet of electral powder in 1 liter of water or you can drink coconut water/energy drinks.

Don't worry this is a normal phenomenon but maintenance of hydration is must to avoid effects of excessive heat like heat stroke.

Hope this answers the query.

Dr.Tushar Tamboli
