What Causes Rashes All Over The Body Of A Child While On Amoxicillin?

My 7year old granddaughter has been taking Amoxicillin for the 7 days.. Yesterday she developed a itchy rash.. It has continued to spread and now her entire body is one big rash.. She developed a fever this afternoon. Her last dose of Amoxicillin was yesterday afternoon. She has had all of her immunizations. Benedryl and zertec has done nothing for her???

Hi..
Thanks for the query...

It seems that your granddaughter has got a delayed allergic reaction to amoxicillin and as it has covered the entire body with rashes the reaction seems severe and the intake of amoxicillin should be immediately stopped..

Till the medicine intake will not be stopped the allergic symptoms will not start improving..

You should also immediately take her to an Allergist and get evaluated and if it seems necessary he/she can advise injectable anti-allergics and steroids for relief from the allergy symptoms along with oral anti-allergics and steroids..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
