What Causes Rashes On Face While On Synthroid And Levothyroxine?

I seem to get a rash on my face (hives, redness, dryness, itchiness etc.) every time I take thyroid medication. I had been on Synthroid for many years, then suddenly it seemed I was allergic. I then tried desiccated thyroid - same thing. Now I m on compounded Levothyroxine and the rash is again appearing. I took time out between these to see if there might be another (food?) culprit. Now what can I do as I am hypothyroid. Thank you! Frantic!

Understanding your concern.As per your query you have symptoms of rashes on face while on Synthroid and Levothyroxine which can occur due to our environment , heat , cold , pressure and sun exposure . The symptoms can also occur due to side effects of certain medicine , as you also mention in query .

The most important thing is to find the trigger factor. I would suggest you to give cold compresses to rashes several times a day to prevent from swelling and itching and take over the counter antihistamine drug like benadryl.

If symptoms still persist the consult dermatologist for proper examination and treatment . Doctor may perform skin test and try to find out the trigger factor . Doctor may prescribe other steroid cream , anti inflammatory drug or drugs that can suppress immune system.

Apply tea tree oil to skin .
