Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Rashes On The Body While Giving Solid Foods To Infants?
Good noon from Philippines. I have 2 boys (twins) at the age of 5 months. My question is, can I let them feed cereal or Gerber for babies? It seems that they want to eat solid foods. Please help me because I am afraid that If I let them feed solid foods they will get rashes, etc.
I understand your concern. Usually, around this age, babies show an interest about solid foods and this is a good time to introduce them to different foods. In order to avoid getting rashes and allergies, it is advised that you introduce one food at a time, without combining it with other kinds of food. This way, you give the baby time to get acquainted with a certain taste and see whether that kind of food causes a rash or any type of reaction. If this happens, you should avoid giving it again. When mixing foods together, it is harder to figure out which one caused the reaction.
I recommend you start with a puréed fruit or vegetable per day and alternate them on different days. You can also try overboiled rice or mash potatoes. As you go, you will know what they like and what is ok to give them and can confidently start combining different foods. Wishing you all the best.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
