What Causes Rashes On The Face While On Levofloxacin?

I have just been put on Levofloxacin for sepsis and pneumonia. I've only had one does which is 750mg tabs. I have rash like spots on my face today so I'm just wondering if the new medication is the problem. I have about 7 irritations on my face, four of which are around my mouth. Thank you, Linda

Hi..
Thanks for the query..

Yes, your symptoms are probably due to allergic reaction to Levofloxacin that is an antibiotic and itchy rashes and bumps is a common presentation of antibiotic allergy..
You should not take another dose of the antibiotic as it can worsen your allergy symptoms and take anti-allergics like Levocetrizine or Benadryl..
You can also do cool compresses over the rashes and apply caladryl lotion..
You can also apply steroid ointment like Triamcinolone acetonide..
You should also consult an Emergency room and get evaluated so that they can give you alternate antibiotics for your infection to avoid worsening of the sepsis and Pneumonia in the absence of antibiotics..

Hope this helps..

Regards..
