What Causes Rashes On The Lower Back While On Diltiazem And Metoprolol?

I have been taking Diltiazem for 12 days with Metoprolol er succinate. I am also on a heart monitor for 3 weeks because of skipped beats and irregular heart beats. The Data my Dr. Has received via the monitor has shown no afib. The skin underneath the monitor has become blistering and red with severe itching. I have also started today with hives on my lower back, neck, arms, with substantial itching. Could a reaction happen up to 12 days after starting a new drug?????

General Surgeon 's  Response
Hello,

Most probably it will be an allergic eruption. As a first line management, you can use antihistamines like Pheniramine for symptomatic relief.

If lesion persists better to stop the drug and ask for alternatives.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Take care

Regards,
Dr Shinas Hussain, General & Family Physician
