What Causes Rawness And Redness Inside The Lips?

The inside of my lips are raw and very red. My outer lips are dry, chapped and cracked at the edges.
I just had a really bad case of thrush a few weeks ago and wonder if it's a symptom that it could be returning or is something else going on.
Also, no matter how much I drink I feel dehydrated.

Hi..
Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concerns..

As per your complain raw and red inner lips along with chapped and dry outer lips with a recent history of having oral thrush can be due to a relapsing case of oral thrush along with fungal infection over the lips also and cracked corners that is known as Angular Chelitis..

It can also be due to dry mouth or xerostomia.. leading to inflammation of mucosa inside mouth along with ulceration due to reduced salivation and it can also cause dry and chapped lips..

Consult an Oral Physician and get evaluated and an Oral Swab Culture and microscopic examination of scrapings from the lips can help in diagnosis and treated accordingly..

As of now you can gargle with numbing mouthwash containing Lignocaine to relieve pain and soreness..
Suck sugrfree chewing gums and drink plenty of water.
Avoid spicy foods..
Suck ice pops..
Apply thick coat of petroleum jelly over the lips and do it frequently throughout the day..
It will help in locking moisture and prevent dryness by providing lubrication..
Beeswax containing lip balm is also helpful..
Avoid excess sun exposure or exposure to very dry and cold wind..
Avoid licking the lips as it further evaporates moisture from the lips..
You should drink plenty of water..
You should take multivitamin supplements..
Exfoliate your skin with a gentle scrub..

Hope this information helps..

Regards.
