What Causes Recurrent UTI?

I have had three Uti’s in the past three months, all cultures indicate e-coil. The have taken macribed, amoxicillin and now cephalexin. I am concerned why I continually have ecoli and how does this happen. I wipe front to back, wash daily...and am worried about the antibiotics killing my good bacteria. I am scared that this will never clear up. What could be causing this?

Hello,

There are many reasons for recurrent UTI like:

1. Inappropriate sex between anal and vagina.
2. Diaphragms use.
3. Vaginal douches, spermicides, etcetera.
4. Kidney/bladder infection.
5. Stones.

I suggest you to take plenty and plenty of water as dehydration is the main cause of UTI other than above. I advise you to do USG abdomen which will give more diagnostic options about kidney and bladder status.

Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.

Regards,
Dr. Indhu Priyadharshini
