Hi the last few months i have suffered with bacterial vaginosis i am not sure why . . .i have been on a couple of courses of antibiotics which seems to clear it up but then all of a sudden it reappears - both my partner and i have both been tested for stds and come back clean. General & Family Physician 's  Response
Hello
I understand your concern

Bacterial vaginosis is treated by a course of metronidazole or clindamycin for 7 days.Infection may recur in 15-30% of treated people.
It can be due to resistant organisms/untreated sexual partner/altered vaginal ph especially during menses.
Resistant organism if suspected, second line therapy of antibiotics is started. It may be given for longer time.Besides, vaginal swab culture and drug sensitivity needs to be done.
You may visit gynaecologist or STD expert in this regard.
Also get your urinanalysis done.
Bacterial vaginosis can be present in partner without causing any symptoms,so his simultaneous treatment is necessary.
Refrain from sex while on treatment and 7 days after that.
Can consider option of local vaginal ph maintaining gel with consultation from gynaecologist.
Maintain genital hygiene with soap and water routinely and after sex.
See if all these steps have been followed.

Hope this information helps.
Feel free to ask any more query.
