What Causes Recurrent Bladder Infection Inspite Of Taking Antibiotics?

Hello , I am 63, male, general good health, but last few years I have regular bladder infections, every2/3 months and have to take Anti B s . This first started about 7 years ago and passed a 10 mm kidney stone and took a long time to rid of the problem but the last couple years I have this recurring problem that just comes out of the blue for no apparent reason. Is this a common ailment of men my age, my doctor says no and wants some tests done. Any ideas as what this could be or what can be done? Thanks , Steve.

Hi Welcome to HEALTHCARE MAGIC..

I have gone through your query and can understand your concern.
Recurrent bladder infection is not common in males. The reason that may be implicated are urinary stones that regularly injure lining of bladder, poor hygiene maintenance, immune compromised state such as diabetes.

Yes tests to diagnose diabetes, urinary stones & other reasons should be done.
I would also suggest you some tips to follow to prevent recurrent bladder infection

- Drink plenty of water (to flush bacteria out of your system). Urinate as often as needed. Don’t try to hold your urine.
- Wear cotton underwear & avoid tight-fitting pants
- avoid diaphragms and spermicides as birth control methods & use lubrication during sex, if necessary
- Wash your penis foreskin regularly, if uncircumcised

Hope this information helps
Good luck
