Hi,I am Dr. Shanthi.E (General & Family Physician). I will be looking into your question and guiding you through the process. Please write your question below.
What Causes Recurrent Cold Sensations In The Hands And The Feet?
My husband and I ride road bikes. After long and/or strenuous rides his hands and feet will get very cold. His fingers sometimes look a little white-ish. It is obviously lack of blood flow, but the reason is why would that happen in a healthy active person.I ve read that it can be because of the body warming the core, but it happens even on days where it is plenty warm out, and often occurs right after the exercise is complete.
The instance of cold sensations in the hands and feet are in relation with hampered blood circulation with pre cyanosis changes. Actually there should be flushing of skin with hyperemia after exercises as there is vasodilatation of blood vessels, but here is not the case. Blockage of peripheral vessels with metabolites of exercise induced digestion can be a major cause of concern. I would like to recommend a consultation with expert physician for primary evaluation and later on if required, he or she may ask you to go for an examination with Doppler ultrasound of the limbs.
Hope I have answered your query. Let me know if I can assist you further.
Regards,
Dr. Bhagyesh V. Patel, General Surgeon
